What We Do

WHAT WE DO:

Student Service-Learning Scholarship Program: We sponsor Angel Island field trips for local, underserved schools. During their time on the Island, students tour the Immigration Station or Camp Reynolds, and explore the Island’s natural resources.

Infrastructure Support: We fund the restoration and preservation of historic buildings and facilities at Angel Island State Park. Recent funding helped restore Camp Reynolds’ historic chapel and schoolhouse. Next on our list are improvements to the Ayala Cove picnic area and the Civil War-era Quarters 10 building.

Living History Program: We support the overnight program that brings fourth and fifth graders to the Island to re-create life as a soldier on Angel Island in 1864. Our contributions fund many of the supplies they need, from lamp oil to cannon powder.

Educational Programs: We organize several educational programs throughout the year, including guided nature hikes and history lectures. Our latest initiative is the development of a self-guided natural history walking tour. On the tour, visitors will learn all about the Island and its inhabitants, including the Angel Island Mole – a species found nowhere else in the world.

WHAT’S NEXT:

  1. It costs an average of $21.30 to bring a student to Angel Island; we’d love to bring 700 students next year, at a cost of almost $18,500.
  1. The park is looking to install new BBQ grills and picnic tables in the Ayala Cove area. Cost per grill: $390. Cost per table: $1,105.
